My career in marketing communications has spanned three decades. I earned my bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in art history from Old Dominion University in 1992. During my time at ODU, I served as the arts editor for the university’s student-run newspaper and as a public affairs intern for NASA’s first student-managed rocket launch. Throughout my professional career, I’ve worked in the communications departments of an electrical distribution corporation, an engineering firm, a printing company, a church, a car dealership, and, for eight years, I served as the communications and publications director at Louisburg College (NC). There, I collaborated with students, alumni, faculty, and staff to shape the institutional narrative and support advancement by weaving interviews and research into targeted press releases, engaging social media posts, and captivating feature articles. I possess a solid understanding of the importance of branding and style guidelines, and I enjoy the challenge of discovering innovative avenues that I can incorporate within the framework of existing standards.
